2/11/2023 Thursday All Soul Day

23. 2 kms

Accommodation: Auberge Tio Pepe

Basic, private bathroom, no hairdryer. BUT there is a kettle in the room! Rare in Spain. Very happy.

Sumptuous breakfast. Hard to leave such a beautiful hotel, especially raining outside.

Cold, wet, and windy. A welcoming sight to see the Basilica of Virgen del Camino. Patrona De León.

The Basilica is a modern building, different from most churches walked past so far.

Said Hail Mary and asked Holy Mother to give me strength to battle the lousy weather. The weather hourly forecast for the next three hours was 95% rain. Suddenly, an elderly priest approached me and asked me whether I am from South Korea. There are many South Koreans walking the Camino. He was very nice and has kind eyes. Padre Veneto. 87 year old. He gave me a blessing. My spirits lifted.

Dark cloud, relentless rain. Needed tortilla and cup of hot tea to cheer me up.

I could not believe my eyes when I left the Cafe. I was greeted by blue skies and sun!! Had only one shower rain during the following 14 kms!

Villar de Mazarife is another small village. The Auberge is owned by the local bar owner. Offering a mixture of dormitory style rooms and rooms with en suite.

6.30pm pilgrim dinner. 12 Euros. Entree, main, dessert plus vino or aqua.

Shared table with a young Belgium guy and young Irish couple. We all are walking to Santiago Compostela and hope to share a drink there on the 14th.
